"This was printed the first year after the atomic bomb was introduced into man's history. The composition represents a Christ figure with a crown of thorns on his head, rising out of a cloud, reminiscient of an atomic bomb explosion. All he seems capable of at the moment, is to bow his head and hide his face in shame.
The sign of David on his sleeve reminds of the contrast between the ideas of Christ and the radical hatred committed by his followers. The background represents a design which creates an impression of continued explosions."
